The Battle of the Drugstore Eyeliners: The Different Types and What’s My Favorite

Eyeliners are my most favorite among all the makeup products out there (along with lip products, that is). Whenever I’d like to look extra glamorous or I wanna pull off the simplest look, the eyeliner never goes amiss. The different types of eyeliners in your local makeup stores can be pretty intimidating, so if you’re a beginner then this post might help you. I scoured my vanity box to show you the different types of eyeliners, what they’re for and what’s the best in my opinion.

Liquid Eyeliners

If you’re a fan of that winged eye look, then this is the best eyeliner to use. This allows you to pull off those precise lines required to create the perfect wing-eyed look. It’s usually in the form of little vials with applicators like the ones we see in nail polishes. Although what I have is the pen type with a marker-like tip and I bought this type because it’s much easier to use.
I love it because…
You see, I don’t even know how to draw a perfect wing for the eye, but I find the consistency super defined plus, it’s long lasting.
What I don’t like about it is…
It’s just too hard to do precise lines for me since my hands are always shaky.
For this product, I recommend…
This Ever Bilena All Day Pen Eyeliner is the only I have right now. I haven’t really tried anything else since I’m relatively a beginner in this type of thing. ✌

Gel Eyeliners

I suspect that gel eyeliners have been there for a while now, but I just discovered how great it is. This type of product is best if you want pull off that cat eye look your friends have always envied. It comes in little jars and along with it is a brush applicator though you can also use other type of brushes as long as it’s angled and precise.
I love it because…
Just like the liquid eyeliner, it also provides that long-lasting effect.
What I don’t like about it is…
It dries quickly so if you messed up during the application, you might have to start over. Plus, if you lost the applicator, then you’re doomed.
For this product I recommend…
This Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner is basically one of the best because it’s not only long lasting, it’s also super affordable.

Pencil Eyeliners

If the sultry, smokey-eyed look is your thing, then pencil eyeliners is the best for you. Trace you upper and lower lash lines with this baby for the dramatic effect, then smudge it up for a more smokey eye effect. It usually looks like an ordinary pencil kids use in school, but I have the retractable ones so I don’t have to sharpen from time to time.
I love it because…
This one is the perfect type of eyeliner for beginners. It’s easy to use, and depending on the brand, you can pull off basically all the eye look you want to achieve – winged eyes, cat eyes and smokey eyes.
What I don’t like about it is…
Like I said, other pencil eyeliners need to be sharpen, which is a total inconvenience especially if you need to leave the house in 5 minutes! And also, some brands of pencil liners aren’t too defined with their colors.
For this product I recommend…
The Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil is the best drugstore coal eyeliner I’ve ever used. It’s retractable and the color is just too defined I am sometimes mistaken to be wearing liquid eyeliner.
And my favorite!
The pencil eyeliner, of course!
They’re my ultimate favorite because
  • they’re easy to use
  • the retractable ones are so convenient and perfect for travel
  • they’re long lasting (depending on the brand)
  • they give me that perfect, smokey eye look I love so much!
What’s your favorite eyeliner? Let’s talk about it in the comments section.
Spread the looooove!
xoxo,
Beth G. ❤
