This blog has been a place of neglect for weeks and I am sorry. It feels like I was just writing my election woes a few days ago and here I am realizing it’s been almost a month. Ahh, time really flies by when you’re having fun!
The truth is, I am extremely busy. The second quarter of the year meant I need to check if there was something good that was going on with my life and if the plot of my story is getting exciting or is it starting to get dragging.
Yes, I am busy. At the beginning of this year, I said I was tired of being tired and it was time to change that. And I did. But my glow-up project didn’t go as planned (more of this later), but that doesn’t mean we abandon the mission. Always think about the other 25 letters of the alphabet whenever Plan A fails.
You see, spending the weekend lying in bed and scrolling aimlessly through social media doesn’t sound so fun (or is it?). My back aches and my head hurts and by the time the rest days end I feel more stressed than I should be. I am not sure where I lost the spark of watching Kdrama and reading books, but I knew I had to do something about it. I need to go back to start, reorganize myself, and create a life that I will fall in love with.
Again, yes. We need to have a life that we’d fall in love with. And it is not something that someone else can do for us – it is something that we need to work on. We decide on it, and we act on it.
It was in April when I started to consistently have awesome weekends. I watched Kpop online concerts, ate good food, went to church, listened to music, spent time with my friends and kids (because I am your cool tita), spent more time with myself, and took care of my skin. While Kdrama marathons and books are missing from the equation, it was the newfound source of joy that I find worth celebrating. They were more than enough to make me realize that the life you’ll truly love is the life surrounded by beautiful things and amazing people.
Beautiful things do not have to be expensive. The sunset is gorgeous. The blue skies are magnificent. The gentle drops of the rain on the roof of a moving car soothe the soul (my 8-year-old nephew agrees with me on this – ang sarap sa pakiramdam gusto ko matulog, he says). A song that says “I’ll hug you, I’ll hold your hands, if I can make your heart comfortable I’ll offer you my all” comforts a broken heart. Beautiful things are beautiful because they make you happy.
Amazing people do not have to say yes to everything you do. And you don’t have to explain yourself to them because they know what you’re thinking, and they know why you do the things you do. They’d applaud you for the good things that happen to you. They sit quietly by your side on bad days (literally and metaphorically). They question you about your bad decisions. They support you for the good things that make you happy. They tell you the things you need to hear when you need to hear them, and even if you don’t want to hear them.
Let’s not get tired of chasing happiness. Let’s not stop igniting the spark in our eyes. Let’s be our own sunshine.
