Book challenge: Books that stayed with me

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs lately, and most of them have been featuring some book challenges. They listed their favorite books, the overrated books, etc. And since I couldn’t afford to make an everyday challenge, I guess I’ve got to simplify mine. So I decided to just give myself a minute and think of the ten books that stayed with me.
In all the years that I have been reading, it surprised me that I couldn’t think of at least ten books that could make this list. And of course, as much as I wanted to just put in the list the first book that I’ve thought of, I just can’t find a way to justify just how that book made the list. In the end, I was able to complete them, and now I am going to share them with you.
This list is in no particular order, I just wrote what came in my head first.

#1: Far From Xanadu, Julie Anne Peters

#2: By The Time You Read This I’ll Be Dead, Julie Anne Peters

Far From Xanadu made it to my list because I just love the way the words were played, and the way it was written. It was just too lyrical it’s almost romantic. The same with By The Time You Read This I’ll Be Dead. I felt the characters’ pain, joy, anger and disappointment, and even their excitement and hope. I guess that’s the reason why I read all of Julie Anne Peters‘ books.

Talk about loneliness. I used to be lonely, and I thought that is the only way for me to be forever. I guess that’s the reason why I can relate to Liz Dunn’s life (aside from the fact that we share the same name), the novel’s main character. This first-person narrative talks about loneliness, and how it’s actually our choice. Happiness is always within reach if we would only choose to be happy.

#4: A Walk To Remember, Nicholas Sparks

This novel is one of the things that made me believe in true love. A love that is blessed by God, and a love that endures even in sickness. Nicholas Sparks is really a creator of romantic masterpieces. By the way, this is also the reason why I read romance novels nowadays.

#5: Have a Little Faith, Mitch Albom

A real spiritual story. All of Mitch Albom’s stories are, really. But this one made me realize that even clergymen are human, bound to make mistakes sometimes. This book made me realize a lot of things about religion and belief in God, and that it isn’t enough to just tell the world that I have faith. I also have to show it through actions.

I just wrote about this book, and this one made me ponder about the truth and how to handle it.

A very unusual story, yet a common story of love. Another tale of love that endures, even in the pain of waiting.

#8: Kapitan Sino, Bob Ong

One of my Bob Ong favorites.

#9: How To Know If Your Dreams Are God’s Dreams, Bo Sanchez

One of the few inspirational books that I’ve read, yet it gave me a lot of things to ponder. I vow to fill my bookshelf with books just like this one.

#10: By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept, Paulo Coelho

Just another tale of love, total surrender and heartbreak. It gave me a sense of much-needed faith in God and in love.
There they are. The books have impacted my life so much. Maybe I haven’t gone through all the details on why each of them affected me in a way. But I encourage you to read them as well. Who knows, they might stay with you too. Or maybe you also have the same list.
